The 2024 Hawaiʻi State Music Competition Part is open to Piano, Violin, and Low Strings (Viola, Cello, Bass) for students ages 5-18.

The 2024 Hawaiʻi State Music Competition will be held live at ‘Iolani School (Castle Building), and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Music Department.

Eligibility & Levels

  1. The Hawaiʻi State Music Competition is open to Hawaiʻi residents. Click on the registration button above to register.

  2. Competition Levels are determined by the student’s age on October 12, 2024. Levels are:

    Pre Level (ages 5-6)
    Level I (ages 7-8)
    Level II (ages 9-10)
    Level III (ages 11-12)
    Level IV (ages 13-15)
    Level V (ages 16-18)

  3. String Divisions: Level IV and Level V will be divided into Violin and Low Strings (Viola, Cello, Bass). For Pre-Level to Level III, the strings will compete together. Each division will have separate winners.

  4. Students may not compete in both MTNA and HSMC in the same year.

  5. MTNA first place winners from 2023 may not compete in HSMC 2024.

  6. First Place winners from the October 2023 Hawaiʻi State Music Competition Part II are not eligible to compete again in the same age level, but may compete for prizes if eligible to compete in the next age level.

  7. In the event in any level, where fewer than 3 students apply by time of registration, no prizes will be awarded, and only 1 judge will preside. Students will be contacted and they will be given the choice to compete or withdraw and receive a refund.

  8. In the event in any level, where 3 or more students apply by time of registration, but there are less than 3 students on the day of the competition, only 1 judge will preside. Judge may award prizes at their discretion. Judges’ decisions are final.
