About Tyler Ramos
Tyler Ramos is a pianist pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature at the Eastman School of Music. He began his musical education with Dr. Thomas Yee and the late Ellen Masaki at the Masaki School of Music in Honolulu, Hawai’i, where he was awarded the BM 2017. He then went on to study with Dr. John Milbauer at the University of Arizona, where he held a class piano teaching assistantship under the direction of Dr. Lisa Zdechlik. Here he became familiar with class piano technology, including smart boards, music lab teaching consoles, and multi-channel recordings. After graduating with an MM in 2019, Tyler moved to Rochester, NY to study with Professor Natalya Antonova at the Eastman School of Music, where he currently holds class piano and collaborative piano teaching assistantships.
Tyler’s accolades include numerous grants and scholarships not limited to the following: the Presser Award, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, John Young Scholarship, Medici Scholar, and the Graduate and Professional Student Council travel grant from the University of Arizona. He has also attended numerous summer music festivals including the Aloha International Piano Festival, Colburn Piano Festival, Hawai’i Chamber Music Festival (where he participated both as a pianist as well as a cellist), the Banff Piano Festival, and the Chautauqua Piano Festival. A noteworthy contender in the competition circuit, Tyler has won top prizes at the national MTNA piano competition, and first place in the national Lois Trester piano competition. Tyler’s repertoire includes Mozart’s Piano Concerto k. 503, Grieg’s Piano Concerto, Bartok’s Second Piano Concerto, Liszt’s Totentanz, and Chopin’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with orchestra. In his free time, Tyler enjoys individual sports such as running, cycling, and swimming and is always trying to get better at all three (mostly in order to make up for his obsessive baking hobby which has been through the ROOF during quarantine).
