Jean-Michel played under such renowned conductors as Maestro Seiji Ozawa, Kurt Mazur, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, Phillipe Entremont and Pierre Boulez.
As a long time member of the community, Mr. Jacquon has also played for the Hawaii Opera Theater Orchestra, Ballet Hawaii, Bach Society Orchestra, Maui Symphony, Galliard String Quartet, Chamber Music Hawaii and BYU Chamber Orchestra.
Jean-Michel was born in Lyon, France and graduated from the Lyon National Music Conservatory (CNR) at the age of 16. That same year, he was accepted into the Lyon National Superior Music Conservatory (CNSM) for graduate studies. After receiving a full scholarship to attend the Interlochen Summer Music Camp in Michigan, Jean-Michel won the competition for the only full merit scholarship to go study at the University of Michigan with famed violinist, Ruggiero Ricci.
After his studies with Maestro Ricci, Jean-Michel was invited to Michigan State University as a Visiting Scholar and became the second violinist of the International String Quartet. When violist Robert Dan of the New World String Quartet joined the faculty, Jean-Michel took the opportunity to study the viola as well.
Mr. Jacquon was a member of the "Ensemble Instrumental de Grenoble", "Orchestre de Chambre de Chambery", the "Lyon Opera Orchestra", Midland, Plymouth, Kalamazoo, Saginaw, Flint, Greater Lansing, Jackson, Grand Rapids and Detroit Symphony before joining the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. The highlights of Mr. Jacquon's career as a violinist includes playing at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City and as a violist, playing at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
As a teacher, Mr. Jacquon taught violin at the Suzuki Institute at Michigan State University and was the Director of the After School Strings Program at Le Jardin Academy in Kailua for more than 20 years. Mr. Jacquon's students go on to win auditions for the Hawaii Youth Orchestra every year since 2001. His students have been Principals and Concertmasters of their sections at schools including Punahou, Iolani and Moanalua. Many have received scholarships for universities and are pursuing careers in the musical field.
Jean-Michel plays a copy of a "Rocco Merli" violin made in Germany in 1860. His viola is an American modern instrument made by Helmut Keller in Philadelphia in 1973.
When he is not performing or teaching, Jean-Michel enjoys movies, photography and sports, specially jogging, and has run the Honolulu Marathon twice.
Mr. Jacquon was invited to join the new Hawaii Symphony Orchestra full time in the spring of 2012.
